DMACC Athletic Programs Earn Academic Honors

Seven of the athletic programs sponsored by Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) have earned academic honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The DMACC women's basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball. women's golf, men's golf and men's basketball were NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award winners based on their academic achievements during the 2013-14 academic school year. All seven teams boasted grade point averages of 3.00 or higher.

In addition, seven DMACC student-athletes earned superior or exemplary academic achievement based on their academic accomplishments during the 2013-14 academic school year.

Sophomore Lynsie Sievertsen of Manilla earned the Superior Academic Achievement award and sophomores Kaylee Buch of Clarinda, Nico Costa of Anamosa, Olivia Sulentic of Truro, Abby Thomsen of Carroll, Taryn Wicks of Jewell and Tyler Wolfe of Deelano, Minn., earned the Exemplary Academic Achievement award. Sievertsen, Buch and Thomsen participated in softball, Costa played men's golf, Sulentic played volleyball, Wicks participated in women's basketball and Wolfe played baseball. All seven had grade points averages above 3.60.
