DMACC Counseling Department

Welcome to the DMACC Counseling Department. We are here to assist you in meeting your academic, career and personal goals. Your success is our focus. Counselors provide brief counseling, consultation, and educational outreach to help students achieve their goals. We are dedicated to facilitating your academic progress through a variety of services:

Confidentiality Policy

When making a decision whether or not to see a Counselor, you may want to know whether your privacy is protected. It is important for you to know and trust that what you say is kept confidential so that you can feel free to express your most private thoughts and concerns.

The DMACC Counseling Department follows a strict code of Confidentiality, according to the standards of the American Counseling Association. Records of your visits to the Counseling Department do not become part of your academic record, and they are not shared with other faculty or staff outside of the Counseling Department. Likewise, your parents do not have access to your records and your counselor will not disclose any information regarding your visit(s).

There are specific exceptions when Counselors are legally bound to break confidentiality. These exceptions are:

  • The counselor or staff member reasonably suspects that a child under the age of 18 is being abused or neglected;
  • The counselor or staff member reasonably believes you may be at risk to harm yourself; or
  • The counselor or staff member reasonably believes you may pose an imminent risk of harm to others.
